Welcome to KnuthLab
Kevin Knuth's Bayesian Exploration Laboratory is located in the Physics Department at the University at Albany (SUNY) in Albany, New York.
Our research is focused on:
- Data analysis applied to the Space, Earth, and Life Sciences
- Signal Processing and Source Separation
- Applications to Intelligent Instruments and Robotics
- Foundations of Information Physics
Our data analysis and signal processing algorithms are used in a wide array of applications both general and specific ranging across multiple scientific domains. Examples include: Fourier Transform Spectrometry, Planetary Nebula Modeling, Density Estimation, Entropy Estimation, Source Separation, and EEG Analysis.
Our current investigations include:
- Search for
Organic Molecules in Space
- Development of Intelligent Autonomous Instruments
- High-Quality Source Separation and Localization techniques
We are also working to develop the field of Information Physics. We have worked to demonstrate that several areas of mathematics and physics derive from generalizing ordering relations to valuations. Our investigations currently include studying the relations between the logic of questions and information theory, applications of entropy, and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

PhD Students
If you are a Ph.D. student interested in studying these topics feel free to contact Dr. Kevin Knuth at the email address listed above.
Post-Doctoral Candidates
Periodically we will have availability for a post-doctoral researcher. These positions, when available, will be posted on this website as well as related newsgroups.
