Text:   Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Serway and Jewett, 7th editon

Course description: Introduction to electricity and magnetism (calculus based).

General Education category: Disciplinary Perspectives: Natural Sciences
See Undergraduate Bulletin page 48 for general criteria governing General Education courses and specific learning objectives for Natural Sciences (natural phenomena, scientific method, social impact).

Honors course: will make more extensive use of calculus than PHY150.

Homework:
Each Homework problem is worth 10 points, so each set is either 50 or 60 points.
Late HW accepted ONLY with prior permission from the instructor.
People may discuss their problems, strategies, and solutions with one another, but COPYING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED and will be dealt with by FAILURE IN THE COURSE.

Quizzes :
Can be given any time.
Expect one at least every two weeks.

Exams: There will be two in-class exams on March 3 and April 7. The final exam will be a take-home exam due at 5:00pm on May 13.  

Grading:
HW 20%
Quizzes 20%
Exam I 20%
Exam II 20%
Final Exam 20%

Please be aware, that homework, quiz or exam solutions consisting of a scribbled equation, some numbers and an answer are NOT ACCEPTABLE, and will receive ZERO credit. Your solutions should be clearly and coherently written so that anyone who is familiar with the topic can follow and understand them. Late homework will be penalized by point deduction.
